Mr. Sandman ... bring my baby a dream ... one that lasts more than 30 minutes ... PLEASE!
We are in full blown sleep regression and it is no fun at all.
If you recall our peanut has governed his own sleeping arrangements from the start. He began in his co-sleeper, then the crib, then the swing in the kitchen under Christmas lights and the hood fan, then the rock & play in his room with a dim light and sound machine playing rain and now ... not at all.
Okay in all seriousness ... he will sleep in the rock & play or swing for around 45 minutes at a time before waking up screaming. At first he was arching his back, screeching and pulling at his clothes around his chest. We immediately thought reflux. His pediatrician disagreed but prescribed some medication to try. It made no difference in his nightly routine but drastically improved his eczema.
We decided not to stay on any medication with no clear results. A few nights later he came down with a cold and cough. His cries now were different.
This was one big cold and let's face it ... he had us wrapped around his finger. Wherever he wanted to sleep we let him sleep. I'm sure the fact that we hadn't slept in a week now might have played a role here. And where was the one place in the house that would keep him asleep for 3 hours at a time instead of just 45 minutes? Our bed.
Now before you go judging he slept in our bed without us in it. Yep ... dad slept on the basement sectional and mom on the living room couch. The second we put him down on our bed asleep or awake he slept. We just didn't get it! He's 6 months old its not like he knows its our bed right?
He has a new high end foam core mattress in his crib, could our bed be that much more comfortable? Could it be our scent that he's after??
Mom and Dad wanted their bed and sleep back in a BIG way.
So tonight Mom cut up a thin piece of memory foam and secured it under his crib sheet. His mattress was now just like our mattress. Then I took the shirt right off Daddy's back and stretched it over the top of the mattress. It's a good thing Dad was wearing a big shirt since it still took some stretching.
It took a little fussing and some strength on our part but ...
We kept moving him down but he would keep scooting up until his entire body was on Daddy's shirt.
He's stirred several times already but not a peep.
Here's to hoping, praying, even bargaining with the Sandman if necessary that this lasts.
Time for Mom and Dad to catch some Zzzzzs
However you can get your baby to sleep, great! I remember nights when I had to sleep sitting up with our daughter on my chest for her to sleep... Hope you were able to get some sleep :)
